Where did the runners go?

I've asked that question when I ran last Sunday after a lazy spell for 3 days.  I couldn't see a lot of joggers/runners!

Did laziness catch up on them like what happened to me the past 3-4 days?  Are they having running burnout?  Or maybe they were just enjoying the few more weekends of cool mornings.

Then, I remember.  It's the day when Piolo was set to beat his own record for the 10K.  It's the Timex Run Race...

I actually planned to run this race early on but begged off last minute due to some conflict in my husband's social schedule.  And even without conflict, we also could not run due to his injury!

He was suffering from tendonitis.  According to orthopedics.about.com, tendonitis is most often an overuse injury.  Does that mean he was overtraining?  Hmmm may be!  He was not always heeding my advise of strictly following our running workout plan, especially on the distance to be covered.  The plan says run for 12k and he did 16k!

Anyway, he's starting to recover now after a series of therapy and medication.  Hope we can have a long run training this weekend.  You see, having a running partner is a great motivator.  From the time hubby was injured, I haven't had any long run.

Instead, I had short runs for three consecutive days totaling almost 15K.  Yesterday, I had a nice run at Graceland Estates and Country Club.  It offers an amazing view while circling the jogging trail ...

I took that picture using my IPhone 4S.  I'm really loving Instragram right now.  It's the best way of updating your FB status with matching picture.  A genius software invention!  Before, almost all my status updates are regarding my runs or races.  Now, most of my updates are either Instagram photos or impeachment proceedings.

So, where did the runner in me go the past few days?

She's either taking Instagram photos or watching Tupas being lectured by Enrile or pawned by Cuevas! =D

My 2012 List

2011

Wow, that was a very good year for me and my family...

  • I was officially admitted to the Philippine bar on April 2011;

  • By attending a marriage encounter in Tagaytay on June 2011, Hubby and I were able to discover Serviam, a Catholic lay organization founded by the late Archbishop of Manila, His Eminence Cardinal Sin.  We are now "entrants" and we will start tomorrow our journey towards knowing more deeply our Lord and Savior;

  • Danielle and Julia were in good health the entire year, except for some bouts of colds and cough;

2012

  • Do more legal works than finance.  Hopefully, I will get feedback regarding my application with the Office of the Solicitor General (*crossing fingers*);
  • Perfect attendance for Sunday masses and Holy Days of Obligation (with kids).  I also want Dani to be part of Serviam's Youth Ministry (!);
  • Continuous good health for the whole family and no dengue attack please;
  • Running-wise, run at least four (4) half-marathons with at least 1 race abroad (either the Singapore Marathon or Phuket Marathon).  Around 3rd quarter, I would like to start training for my first full marathon (planning to run either TBR's Dream Marathon or Condura's 2013 Skyway Marathon).   Call me ambitious but if Anne Curtis was able to release an album then I certainly can train and run for a marathon (*sorry for the poor analogy*).

Let's ALL rock 2012 by running, praising and giving back all the glory to the One!

The Biggest Loser

Having kid/s is not an excuse to be careless about gaining weight nor being fresh from reviewing the notorious bar examination.

Those were my alibis whenever somebody noticed the bigger Lilet they saw a few months ago.  My weight hit its heaviest at 75 kilograms.

Look at those huge thighs!!!
I've tried a lot of ways to lose those plenty of unwanted fats....from doing yoga to different kinds of diet.  Obviously, those did not work.

Late September this year, our corporate admin officer announced that there would be a contest among those who wanted to be fit!  Called after the hit show, "The Biggest Loser'' targets those who are fed up of starving themselves and binge eating after.

We had our initial weighing in and mine was a little over 70 kilograms.  I've been doing some dieting for the past few months so somehow I already lost some weight.  Just imagine eating either mixed fruits or greens only during lunch during on workweeks!

Then, finally, after a lot of attempts to venture into joining races, I decided to become a runner... LegallyfabrunnR is born!

Fast forward to December, venue: Somerset Hotel in Makati and it was time to announce the winner for the biggest loser...

I did not win....hu hu hu!  I lost to Theresa for barely 0.2kg.  I should have had my hair cut first before the final weighing in.  Yeah..prizes are really amazing - big amount of cash + overnight stay at New World Hotel (with buffet breakfast) and airfare ticket for 2 to anywhere in the Philippines.  Sayang talaga!

But then, I may not have won but I am still happy for having discovered running.  Now, even without any prize at stake I will  run!  Look we have just paid today P1,200 to run for the Condura Skyway Marathon.  Quite pricey, right?  But they will be giving away medals for the finishers.  Look at these...

Here's my nice singlet shirt...

Let's go and run for the mangroves!!

To run on an empty stomach

Can you do that?  I can't but may be will try someday.

So why this topic?

I had a 12-hour fasting done yesterday in preparation for a very important religious Sunday event (no need to go into details since this is a running blog not a religious one!).  From 7am to 7pm,  I did not eat anything despite the tempting of my office mates to taste this and that...

Called intermittent fasting, this practice has something kind of magical, according to a professor at UC Berkeley, Dr. Marc Hellerstein.  And this approach to weight control has scientific basis since it yields the benefits of calorie restriction which ultimately reduce the risk of some diseases and even extend life.  So if you wanna live longer, it's definitely a good idea to observe fasting, especially during lent season.  You will definitely please God while pleasing yourself with the results!

At exactly 7:01pm, I gobbled up one whole patty (with chicken stew inside) from Jamaican Patty in less than a minute.  I should have win if there's an eating contest.  Then, arriving at home I still ate dinner (more rice please!). Now, that's the downside of intermittent fasting.  You usually resort to binge eating!

So this morning, my alarm was set at 4:45AM so I could run my usual 5K.  Oh my, the hubby was telling me that his head was aching...Why?  Because of hunger....hehehe.  I knew he was just making alibis so I insisted and he lazily obliged.

We did 5K and surprisingly there was no any hitch!  I therefore conclude that's it's okay to fast and furiously run the next day...Who knows you might achieve your goal of losing weight and look like......<==that!

At least the skeleton can still run!  But, GMA?  Sorry, warrant of arrest has already been issued so she could no longer run.  Maybe it would be best for her supporters to do some FASTING (hunger strike).  Who knows, P-noy may allow her to leave the country...LOL

Rain rain go away!

Oh yeah...rain!  Please go away...I need to run tomorrow morning.

But, if you come, please bring Leo with you...

I'll surely run even without a raincoat.

But, really!  I want to run...need to.  I need my dose of endorphin ...not the one that comes from my medication (60 grams of duloxetine daily).  No, it's not for depression but for my anxiety.  I am under medication for over two (2) years now and on my way to weaning....weehhh!

Anyway, should I have known that running is addicting then I should have stick to badminton.  So, please rain...stop and go away.  Will run tomorrow morning!

Day Before My First 5K!

Ever since I signed up for the 5K fun run of the AKOR, there’s this excitement I could not contain.  My 5k training plan entails a five-week workout plan consisting of 4x a week run/walk for certain number of minutes.

To say that I religiously followed the training plan is a mis-assessment (if there’s such a word).  Around half of the plan was all did I succeed in pursuing.

A lot of factors (some alibis!) contributed to half-success, half-failure – hubby’s dad died when I was on the start of my second week.  And, there were days when it was really nicer to curl up in bed and enjoy few minutes of snoozing prior to preparing for office.  Add to that, the start of our badminton training.  We hired a badass coach who seems to enjoy torturing us by letting us run here and there just to slam that shuttlecock!

Nevertheless, I am confident that I can do the 5k tomorrow (*sheepish grin).  In fact, a couple of nights ago I already had my singlet and running paraphernalia laid out in bed due to excitement!

*nice color especially for a morena like me hehehe.

So what happened today?

Definitely, no running but I am planning for some short swim later in the afternoon.  Just so I can relax my leg muscles.   Then, for dinner at home we’re having some grilled….is that t-bone?  YUM.  May be I’ll just have small serving and eat more rice?

I saw some sweet potato and ripe bananas for boiling. Will surely have more of those tonight.

Too excited ‘no?

no more junk food!

that's right!

i started with my 5-week training and it hurts from my knee down whenever i run.

must be sodium overload!

i ate doritos this morning and again some munchies this afternoon while watching Mark Z. tomorrow will be harder - a 2 - mile walk/run!

wait, i'm a metric person....

according to metric conversion, 2 miles equal to 3.22 kilometers. that would be running/walking from house to gate 1 and back!

hope i will make it =D
